Coins from the Middle Ages

The Middle Ages or Medieval period lasted from the 5th century - 15th century AD. Coins from this period are wide and varied. Made from Silver mostly and implimented quite generally to pay taxes to the rulers and tributes to the church and not always used in commerce as the populations were regularly poor.

Byzantine coins fit in this category but are generally held separte due to their closer relation to the Roman Empire and collected alongside ancient coins.
