Carcharocles megalodon

The Megalodon, large tooth, is an extinct species of shark that would have existed 1.6-16 million years ago. Although the taxonomy of the shark is still in debate, as well as other specifics about it's species, it's said to have been one of the greatest predators of it's time. Some believe that the megalodon is similar in appearance to a Great White shark with it's stockier nature and deep set smaller eyes. Others are of the opinion that the shark was more akin in appearance to the Basking shark or a whale shark, in that it had some of the fin characteristics that help the larger aquatic creatures reduce drag.

it's believed that the megalodon was a warm ocean dweller, and that the impending cold of the ice age played part in the extinction of the species.
