In December 1921, the Peace Dollar, designed by the renowned Italian American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci (1887-1964), was approved by Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon. This coin replaced the Morgan Dollar, symbolizing not only the peace between the U.S. and Germany but also America's emergence as a global power. Recognizing the sacrifices of its citizens during World War I and celebrating victory, over a million of these coins were struck by the year's end. The Peace Dollar, which was minted until 1935, was reintroduced in 2021 with a stunning uncirculated finish, commemorating its century-long legacy.
