1726-PY Bolivia 8 Reales Shipwreck Princess Louisa

The ship was named Princess Louisa after the youngest daughter of King George II. On April 18, 1743 Princess Louisa shipwrecked near the island of Maio on a voyage to Bombay and Persia, accompanied by a smaller merchant ship, The Winchester.

Dangerous breakers on a coral reef caused the wreck of Princess Louisa but the Winchester was able to avoid wrecking on the reef. The Winchester could not save the crew because of the rough sea but some survived by swimming to the beaches of Maio.
