When Concorde first took to the skies fifty years ago, the world watched in awe as a new age of supersonic travel roared into life. Capable of traveling at twice the speed of sound, nothing came near Concorde for sheer style and innovation, and the rich and famous clamored for the chance to fly on the world’s fastest passenger jet. Her final flight in 2003 marked the sad end to a great era but despite this she is still an icon of one of the greatest achievements ever in aviation.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Concorde’s first flight a new gold quarter sovereign has been minted; and just like the world-first aircraft it celebrates, the coin too, is the first of its kind in the world.

Struck in solid 22 carat gold, the coin features Concorde’s distinctive nose section; this feature has been struck in relief and given a reflective finish that shines out against the coin’s frosted background. A special ‘Concorde 50’ logo denotes the 50th anniversary. An incredibly small quantity of only 4,999 have been minted.
