Interesting Numismatic Fact: Curiosity Rover has many cameras, 17 to be exact. One camera, the MAHLI (Mars Hand Lens Imager) is used for microscopic imaging of samples on Mars. It's a truely remarkable camera, but like any piece of scientific equipment, it does need calibration. As part of the tests and calibration standards, NASA chose a 1909 VDB cent as part of the calibration process. The only coin on Mars, is as red as the planet itself.
